God Doesn’t Require You to “Have it Together”

    February 1, 2018

The amount of times I’ve said I need to get my life together is bothersome.

It bothers me not only because I know I’ll never have it all together, but also because this statement implies a scary thing that far too many of us believe: we can do this life on our own.

If we’re being honest, there are times I wish I could make decisions on my own without asking God what His best interest is. There are times I want to flee and follow my wandering heart to far-off places (figuratively and literally), but every time I let the pursuits of my own heart guide, they fail me.

I feel like the Israelites. God is talking directly to me in Isaiah 30:1 (NKJV),

“Woe to the rebellious children,” says the Lord, “Who take counsel, but not of Me,
And who devise plans, but not of My Spirit.”

He knows that His people are roaming for contentment, fulfillment, and pleasure. He knows that we seek people to “speak smooth things to us” instead of providing constructive criticism (Isaiah 30:10).

Our Father knows we long for inner fulfillment, but we can’t experience true contentment in our lives until we allow God the authority to set us free.

Handing over control of our dreams and plans to Yahweh is NOT imprisonment, it’s another level of spiritual intimacy that we should all desire to attain. Handing God the reins to our lives breaks strongholds and shatters any bondage we might carry. Allowing Him to hold his title as Creator, Almighty, Maker, King of Kings allows us to be FREE.

Whatever it is you’re searching for that you think will bring “togetherness” to your life, God is better. No boyfriend or husband can provide you the romance that Jesus can. No parent can craft a life plan for you as well as the Maker of the universe can. No career can give you financial freedom enough to replace the utter liberty we have in Christ. No diet can promise eternal satisfaction like the pursuit of an eternal kingdom.

See, beloved readers? We will never have our lives figured out as long as we reside on this earth. That’s part of God’s brilliant design. He created us to crave. It’s on us to choose the sweet, satisfying promise of the King as the answer to our hunger. HE can rebuild out of ashes, and HE can fulfill the deepest desires of our hearts with just one phrase: “Come to Me.”

Will you choose today to release the firm grip you have on controlling your future? I don’t know about you, but when I look back on my life one day I don’t want to think, “He would have satisfied” like the reference to Israelites in Psalm 81:16, but rather I want to say “He satisfied.” Because He can. He does. Let go, dear one. He’s the one who is really worth it.
